rund um Berlin is a complete redesign of the Berlin S-Bahn and U-Bahn network map, in a radial/circular style. It is also an experimental hybrid between algorithmic design and human design; it is generated by a computer program.

The locations of the stations and routes as lists of those stations are entered manually, by the designer. All the locations are given using polar coordinates. The program then draws the zones, routes, determining when to draw radii or arc, and how to draw the stations. It places labels, determining text-direction and vertical alignment automatically, based on the directions of the routes through that station and that station's position on the polar grid.

The name, rund um Berlin, is a play on words: it means "all around Berlin" but also "all about Berlin".
